In an effort to address the increasing demand for cement in the country, Tororo Cement is investing $25 million (Shs42.5 billion) to expand its Tororo plant’s production capacity.
The Managing Director of Tororo Cement, Mr Brij Gagrani, said the new facilities will see the cement production capacity increase from the current 700,000 tonnes to one million tonnes in the next four years.
The investment which is in two phases started with the expansion of the capacity of the raw mill, rehabilitating the kiln, optimising cement and clinker production with addition of new packer, which will in total take close to $12 million (Shs20 billion) in 18 months.
The second phase of the project will cost the company approximately $13 million (Shs21.7billion) and will involve putting up a new cement mill that will double the company’s production capacity. The expansion is likely to reduce the country’s over reliance on cement imports.
