Tororo Cement in $10m expansion

Tororo Cement factory will soon commission a $10m manufacturing plant as part of plans to double production to 2,000 tonnes from 1,000,

The company has also found it necessary to upgrade and maximise production in the view of the forthcoming free border trade under the East African customs union. We are targeting exploiting and satisfying the larger regional market where the housing and construction sectors are growing fast due to the booming investments. The chief financial controller, Breg Geghrani, said during an interview at Tororo Cement recently
He said that the project will be open at the end of this year at the main cement factory in Tororo. He said it would have electronic rotary packers and a strong cement mill.

Geghrani said the company has also embarked on a $3m project to convert its fuel-fired furnace to coal-fired in order to reduce production costs. He said the factory, which contributes over sh1.75b per month in taxes and duties, markets its products mainly in the northern, eastern and central Uganda. He said the cement factorys exports are expected to increase to 20% from 10% in the next few years. Geghrani said the firm is in the process of getting its main raw material, limestone, from Karamoja. This has provided employment to over 300 people in the area, he said.
