Ugandas construction industry has grown at a fast rate, and so is the demand for the construction materials. But finding durable and cost-effective materials has become a thorny issue to many constructors, as fake dealers who sell to them sub-standard materials in attempt to make quick and easy money fleece them.

Whenever a person embarks on putting up a structure, they have a vision that it will last a lifetime. This is however not usually the case due to the existence of shortsighted dealers who are after making quick money, many property developers have been frustrated.

Poor quality building materials can be frustrating. Thats why companies such as Uganda Bureau of Standards UNBS and ISO are in place to check the quality of production and the building materials. There are several companies in Uganda where building materials can be taken care of.

Cement is a very important product in the construction of a building, and one of the companies that produce quality cement is Tororo Cement Limited. According to Yogen Jerajani, the marketing manager, TCL produces high performance brands for Portland pozzolana cement PPC and Portland cement to suit customers standards. Yogen said that brands made are characterised by effectiveness in high strength applications. TCL products are produced under stringent control that is certified from UNBS as well as the New rock brand and Nyumba.

TCL doesnt only produce cement but also other construction materials such as galvanised corrugated iron sheets, wire products and construction steels. In view for the growing demand and long lasting roofing sheets, TCL has started the production of pre-painted galvanised sheets under the brand name of Nyumba, Yogen says.

Apart from meeting the standards of UNBS, TCL has also certified the ISO 9002. All the products are formulated to meet the requirements of these bodies and they have passed the test.

TCL doesnt only produce quality products for their customers but they go an extra mile to cater for the needs of their clientele. They have facilities to despatch products by rail and road.

To do this they realise the need to co-operate with other companies thus the adage that no man is an island is important to TCL.
Our relationship with Uganda Railway Corporation has enabled us to maintain a reliable railway siding where the wagons are sealed before they are carried out of the factory premises, Yogen says. Our fleet of trucks complement our otherwise sufficient transport system to ensure speedy and timely delivery to our array of customers. We also have a warehouse located on Plot 67, 6th Street Industrial Area in Kampala where we can distribute other products in order to give our customers better services. he said.

The demand for TCL continued to increase even to other countries such as Congo, Kigali and Sudan.
